Leaked Video Reveals Sony PS5 Slim With Slimmer, Shorter Design

It’s been a while since the first rumors of a PS5 Slim surfaced, and the gaming community has been wondering what the hardware version could bring. Now we may get our first look at what appears to be the PS5 Slim – or whatever it will eventually be called – thanks to a series of new images and a video showing off the alleged console in its entirety.

PS5 Slim: Similar design, but looks slightly thinner, shorter

A video leaked by X-user @BwE_Dev shows a console similar in build to the current PS5 disc model, with the same white-on-black color scheme and “router-like” design it’s often referred to. The new console, however, appears to be both thinner and shorter, with horizontal slits on both sides. It is unclear what these slits are for or if they are purely for aesthetic purposes.

Additionally, the leaked video shows a disc drive attached to the console, but it’s unclear if it’s removable. It has previously been reported that the PS5 will have a removable disk drive that can be sold as a separate accessory. This means that the PS5 Slim (without the disc drive) could become Sony’s default product. Currently, Sony offers PlayStation 5 in two distinct models: PS5 Disc and PS5 Digital console – retailing at Rs 54,990 and Rs 44,990 respectively in the Indian market.

If the leaked video shows the final or near-final product, calling it a “thin” model might not be ideal. From a purely visual point of view, the difference is minimal at best. In fact, the alleged slim console appears to have ditched the USB-A port on the front.

Xbox believes the PS5 Slim is coming

Microsoft also claimed in an antitrust hearing against the FTC that the PS5 Slim could be released this year for $399 – the same price as the PS5 Digital in the US.

Sony recently gave a discount on PS5 Disc console in several regions including India, UK and other regions. This could be a move to clear existing inventory before the Slim console is released.

Based on Sony’s history of releasing updated models a few years after the original console was released, such as the PS3 Slim in 2009, the PS4 Slim in 2016, and the PS2 Slim after the “fat” model, it is likely that Sony will release the PS5 Slim at a lower price to boost sales. This is because hardware upgrades often reduce costs. But so far, Sony hasn’t made any official announcements about a possible hardware upgrade.
